THE THOUGHT PROCESS
Mathew is starting to think about this cancer somewhat finally.. He even mentioned that he didn't want to go through the therapy... Soon shut him up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol..
I think he is getting worried about the effects of chemo and how he will tolerate it... We all need to be positive for him... Having Kim here I know helps but I wonder if this makes Mathew think about the fun he won't have when he is going through chemo... We need to keep getting visitors I think..and need the Prayers to continue Thank you all....
We have had friends coming and going since saturday... so I am thankful for that...

Tomorrow we go see Dr Abdo his Dr that did the colonoscopy and Mathews surgery.
We will update more when we find out more tomorrow..
Thursday we go see his family Dr..(David Hatfield) see what he says and we are still waiting for a call from his oncologist Dr Nabong to go see him this week also...

His sleep study is supposed to happen over tomorrow night (tues) but as usual the Insurance might not ok it yet... aaaghhhhhh American Insurance SUCKS...
Will update more tomorrow.....

Stage 3C Colon Cancer

We found out tonight that Mathew has stage 3 C cancer...
8 of the 16 lymph nodes tested positive......
The survival rate for 3C colon cancer is approx 44%....
They think it has not spread to other organs thank goodness...
Looks like he could have had this cancer for about 2 years...
He is doing much better today and hope that after 6 months of chemo we will be able to celebrate him being cancer free....
He will begin chemo in about 3 weeks.....
Thank you again for your support...Maxine

The after effects of the surgery!

Mathew had a very rough night... Much sickening pain and we could not get it under control until the early hours when the Dr called in to put him on an anti-inflammatory along with the Morphine... Poor guy.. I felt so bad for him....
I was able to get about 2 hours sleep and he was lucky to get 1 hour at a time.. There was someone coming in every hour to check on him and take blood, give pain meds, check blood sugar, check his lungs etc etc...
Hospitals are great BUT you do NOT get rest while in there... roll on going home...

Surgery

Mathew had surgery to remove the cancer in the colon. They also removed several lymph nodes to test them for cancerous cells.
They took out his appendix ( thank goodness that the mass was pushing on it and causing the pain) !!!
Some small and large intestine was also taken out and luckily they were able to re-attach the bowel together so NO colostomy bag which Mathew feared having most!!!!!!!!

They were going to just use a probe BUT when they "got in there" they decided to cut him open from above belly button to pubic bone.... OUCH...
He will keep the staples in for approx 2 to 3 weeks....

No walking through metal detectors.... lol

Mathew was diagnosed with colon cancer after the colonoscopy. During the procedure... they called a CODE BLUE !!! not that he flat lined but just quit breathing due to chronic sleep apnea!!!
